OVERVIEW Students who follow this in-depth curriculum and pass the exam will earn the French Wine Scholar™ (FWS) post-nominal (e.g. John Smith, FWS). WHO IS THE PROGRAM FOR? The French Wine Scholar™ program is designed for both professionals and enthusiasts. It is a great resource and supplement for learners of wine moving toward the advanced wine programs from the CMS, CWE, WSET or MW. While not a pre-requisite, we recommend that candidates successfully complete at least the first level of one of these programs before enrolling the FWS program. WHY STUDY FRENCH WINES? All learners of wine eventually discover France. Some use it as the starting point to begin their wine journey while others arrive in France after having sampled the wines of other countries. There is a world within French wine and wine styles of France have certainly impacted the entire wine world. France is the botanic birth place of the most commercially significant grape varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Pinot Gris, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah to name a few. Therefore, by studying French wine, learners build a strong foundation of knowledge from which to expand at will. INCLUDES: 10 class meetings of 3 hours of lecture & tutored tastings hosted by an approved instructor. 60 in-class wines tasting samples 274-page full-color manual 1-year access to online program (e-learning multimedia, review quizzes, and downloadable maps Registration for the FWS examination WHAT YOU"LL LEARN: For each wine region, you will learn how viticulturists and winemakers have exploited their natural terroir to craft the styles and quality of wines known today. The wine regions include: Alsace, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Savoie, Loire, Bordeaux, Languedoc-Roussillon, Rhône, Southwest France, Provence, Corsica and Champagne EXAMINATION The final examination consists of a 100 multiple choice questionnaire. Candidates who achieve a 75% pass will be awarded a the FWS post-nominal, a pin and certificate. Candidates who achieve a score of 85-90% will graduate with Honors Candidates who achieve a score of 91% or above will graduate with Highest Honors. BOOKING TERMS AND CONDITIONS To attend any tutored tasting or workshop, you must be over 20 years old, the legal minimum age for the consumption of alcoholic beverage in Thailand. Only a completed booking form with student declaration will be accepted. Your booking is not secured until payment is received. All events must be paid for in advanced. Your seat will only be confirmed by email after payment has been received. WSET courses and examinations are subject to minimum of 10 fully paid candidates. If, on reaching the booking deadline, there is an insufficient number of candidates to run a WSET program, the course or program will be cancelled, and full refund will be arranged for candidates who have already paid minus the costs of WSET materials already supplied. Candidates should be aware that refunds may take up to one week to process. CANCELLATION Cancellation by Wine & Spirit IQ and Refunds: In the rare case of sickness or unavoidable reason a host-educator is unable to teach a lesson, and a replacement cannot be made, a session may be cancelled and rescheduled to a date and time at the discretion of Wine and Spirit IQ. Wine and Spirit IQ will make every effort to reschedule the session to a date that is most suitable for the majority of candidates. No refund, however, will be made to any student who is unable to attend the rescheduled session for whatever reason. In the case of lockdown imposed by the government due to COVID-19, in-class sessions might transition to online sessions it such measure is suitable for the majority of candidates . No refund; however, will be made to any student who is unable not attend the online sessions for whatever reason. Wine & Spirit reserve the right to change the venue of any course or event to one of equal or superior quality and within the same vicinity. Cancellation by Candidate and Refunds: Booking for WSET courses are refundable up to 20 working days prior to the course starting date. All refund requests must be made in writing or by email. An administration fee of 1,500 THB plus the full cost of WSET Study material supplied will be deducted and the remainder of the course fee refunded. No refunds are available for cancellations received within 20 working days prior the first day of class. TRANSFERS/DEFFERRALS Transfer of a booking to an alternative course date is permissible up to 20 working days prior to the course starting date – subject to availability. Transfer requests must be received in writing or by email. Transfer will incur an administration fee of 1,500 THB. Transferred courses are not eligible for refunds. EXAMINATIONS Examination dates are fixed to the course onto which you have booked and any transfer to an alternative examination date will occur an administration fee of 1,500 THB. Examination date transfer requests must be made in writing by email and are subject to availability. Exam date transfer requests made within 15 or less working days of the examination date will incur an administration fee of 1,500 THB plus the cost of unused examination paper: 2,500 THB. DELIVERY OF COURSE MATERIALS Except for the WSET L1 Award in Wines and all Wine Scholar Guild Courses (for which course materials is handed on the day of class), your course materials will be sent to the address you have provided, once your booking has been confirmed. All study materials are delivered by a courier and someone will need to sign for the materials. It is essential that a daytime telephone number is provided on your booking form. Please note that your email address will be sent to our distribution center and courier provider to enable your materials to be tracked and ensure delivery. If you do not wish your email to be sent to these secure third parties, please contact Wine & Spirit IQ before booking to arrange another method of receiving your study materials. It is important for you to provide a complete and accurate delivery address and ensure someone is available to receive your materials. If your study materials are returned to our distribution center, having not been successful delivered; this will automatically result in an additional cost for re-delivery.
